John Dupaix

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE BIG PICTURE. John gave me this picture to use, I have no idea where it was taken.

City of residence: Midvale, UT

Age: 21

Length of time "in the scene": 6 years

Occupation: ?

Education: Graduated from Hillcrest High in 1995.

Musical taste: "Classical, industrial, new wave, old punk (like Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols), death punk (Christian Death, Bauhaus, etc.)" The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, OMD, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Beethoven.

Hobbies, activities, interests: "Painting, drawing and other visual arts are my main interests. Sewing, I sew much of my own clothing. I enjoy any type of dancing."

Distinctions in appearance: "Fourteen piercings, seven in each ear. Half inch long fingernails ground to a point. Both nipples pierced. Three feet of auburn hair. Victorian clothing. Cravat coat with tails, vest, knee high boots and a pocket watch with a chain." His hair is still its natural color because he doesn't believe in dying hair. It does too much damage, and he finds dyed black hair unaesthetic.

Hobbies, activities, interests: "Fencing (saber, rapier, broad sword), classical literature, movies, history, dark romantic literature, science, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, religion, English, foreign languages, collecting marbles, calligraphy." He likes reading authors such as Poe, Shelley, Voltaire, Dickens, and Ayn Rand. He said he dislikes most books written after 1950 because they seem redundant.

Spiritual, philosophical, religious affiliation: "Hedonistic tendencies tempered by Judeo-Christian morality. I believe mostly in individualism and in the power that the mind possesses. As for faith, I am agnostic. Essentially, I agree with the thought that religion is the opiate of the masses." He said that he enjoys sensual pleasures, but not to the point of stupidity. He does value monogamy and thinks that making yourself happy is better than punishing yourself and suffering over an ideal.

Goals, dreams: "Excellence in fencing, becoming a history professor." He can't afford college right now but would like to go to school.

Do you consider yourself gothic?: "Partially, if I were forced to categorize myself, I would be a gothic. However, as 'gothics' are individualists by nature, this is a very broad scope. To be specific, I consider myself to be a continuation of the dark romantics (a philosophy and writing style of the Victorian era - i.e. Edgar Allan Poe). However, to really describe myself I would say that I am a morbid aristocratic intellectual misanthropist. In any case, I hate to be categorized, so I'm just me, John."
